Lance:
Lance inspired the first ever Lawle Guby Open in 1999 by announcing his decision to travel the world with Lucy for a year.
The first ever tournament was held on Saturday 7th August 1999 as a farewell event. Nobody expected him to return to Nottingham a year later or to still be here over ten years later.
The tournament could just as easily have been called the Lince Jobby or Lonce Judy Open, as these were all amongst the numerous variations of his name used by consumers when writing to him at Experian.
As you might expect, he is a consistent Lawle Guby performer. He unsettles opponents with his outlandish appearance and between-shot banter.
In 2006 he finally ended his long wait to win the tournament
that bears his name by one shot in a closely fought battle with
Andy W, despite Andy pulling back 3 shots in the last 3 holes.
He won again in 2014 and 2020 to join a number of players with
three wins
to their name.
He also stars for his local cricket team and keeps wicket for them, with little success.
Trivia: Has his hair cut at the barbers opposite Arnold Park. Supports Norwich City and is a big fan of Madness and the Wedding Present.
