Robert:

Robert is a founder member of the Lawle Guby Open. The foundations were laid when he, Lance and Jimmy D used to play a round of par-3 golf before work at 6.30am. It was often freezing cold and the ground rock hard with frost.

Despite this, the three friends enjoyed their games and when Lance announced his decision to travel the world, it seemed only natural to organise a golf tournament in his honour.

You may well be asking yourselves "who is Jimmy D?" or "did Jimmy D die?". Well, Jimmy D couldn't be bothered to turn up to the farewell event for his good friend, or any of the subsequent 9 tournaments. He eventually showed his face in 2009.

Anyway, Robert has had a chequered history in the Lawle Guby Open. He has shot the lowest gross score at least three times and has been runner-up three times.

The title had always eluded him, until over £100 of golf lessons brought him the coveted title in 2009. He won again in 2012, but the victory was once again tarnished by allegations of handicap fixing. He became the first player to retain the trophy at a wind ravaged 2013 Open.

Trivia: Once scored three birdies in a round, but still managed to lose by landing in a bunker towards the end of his round and scoring 9.
